Curriculum

Years 7, 8 & 9

Our pupils in Years 7 to 9 are supported and looked after by a team of form tutors and the Head of Key Stage 3. This team create an excellent family and working environment where the pupils discover their potential in both academic and extra-curricular pursuits.

Their achievements are recognised by the Reward System and the family atmosphere ensures that they will enjoy their life within Key Stage 3.

Please see our Departments page for subjects on offer.

Curriculum and Setting

We are proud of our broad and balanced curriculum model that has been evolving as the school has continued to grow these past few years.  You can see the overview of the model below.

Year 10 & 11

Subject choices are made by students in Year 9.  Each student is interviewed by the Headmaster and Deputy Head to help them make the appropriate pathway. Student takes between 8 and 10 Key Stage 4 qualifications.

The other forms have the standard 9 GCSE package. With small class sizes and the support of form tutors and Heads of Year this encourages our pupils to excel in all their subjects.

Special Needs Provision

The Special Educational Needs Team comprises of the SENDCo, a Lead Teaching Assistant and a team of Learning Support Assistants. The team is based in the Hamblin (a dedicated provision room) and provides a range of support for pupils identified as having SEN.

The support for our SEN pupils is first and foremost provided through high quality teaching and differentiated activities within the classroom environment. In addition to this the team of teaching assistants are deployed according to need within the classroom to support access to learning and progress.

The Hamblin is available for pupils at breaks and lunchtimes and is a staffed safe place for vulnerable students.

The Cestrian Way underpins the whole ethos of the school with high expectations of behaviour and academic achievement; this is the same for all pupils including those with SEN. There is a ‘no excuses’ culture and all pupils are challenged and encouraged to thrive and lead rich and fulfilling lives from the moment they join the school in Year 7.
