Year 7 – Ludwig van Beethoven (HT1 assessment pieces for Y7 include ‘Für Elise’ and ‘Ode to Joy’ from Symphony No. 9)

Year 8 – Ed Sheeran (studying Pop music this term)

Year 9 – Randy Newman (studying a topic on Disney this term)

Year 10 – Kurt Cobain (in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Nirvana’s ‘In Utero’ album)

Year 11 – Johann Sebastian Bach (Bach is one of the set piece composers on the GCSE Music listening exam)

Year 7 – Claude Debussy (Romantic Era pianist & composer)

Year 8 – Barnard Herrmann (Horror film composer, notably worked on many Hitchcock films)

Year 9 – Liam & Noel Gallagher (Year 9 are doing a study of “Music from Manchester” this term)

Year 10 – Erik Satie (Romantic Era pianist & composer)

Year 11 – Miles Davis (revolutionary Jazz trumpeter and band leader)

Bonus 1 – Ella Fitzgerald (influential vocalist & “Queen of Jazz”)

Bonus 2 – Hildur Guðnadóttir (first woman & Icelander to win an Oscar for best original score (Joker))

  • Year 7 – John Williams – Year 7’s will be learning about Film Music this half term
  • Year 8 – John Lennon – Year 8’s will be learning about The Beatles this half term
  • Year 9 – Paul McCartney – Year 9’s will be learning about The Beatles this half term
  • Year 10 – Hans Zimmer – Keeping with the Film theme, Zimmer is amongst the best Film scorers
  • Year 11 – Danny Elfman – Another influential Film composer
