2023 - 2024

1. Religious Festivals - My Life, My Faith
Have you celebrated or participated in a religious festival or event with your family, friends or community? 

Write an account of what you did and submit it. Explain what you celebrated and how you celebrated.  Why it is traditional to celebrate that way?  

 

2. Year 7 - 11- What is your view of the world? 

Everyone has a worldview. In his book The Universe Next Door: A Basic Worldview Catalog, James Sire defines a worldview as being “a set of presuppositions" which we hold about the basic makeup of our world.” and asks seven questions people can ask themselves to find out their worldview:

1. What is reality? The really real?
2. What is the nature of external reality, that is, the world around us?
3. What is a human being?

4. What happens to a person at death?

5. Why is it possible to know anything at all?

6. How do we know what is right and wrong?

7. What is the meaning of human history?

Challenge - Choose one of these questions and write your personal response to the question. 

3. Year 8 and 9 - Pilgrimage 
Why do people go on pilgrimage? Research a popular pilgrimage location from around the world and explain why people go and what they gain from their experience? 

4. Year 10 and 11 - Religious Practices

How do religious believers actually practice their faith? 
Research one of the following topics:

  1. Eucharist (Christianity)
  2.  Zakat (Islam)
  3.  Sacraments (Christianity)
  4. Festival of Ashura (Islam) 
  5. Foodbanks - How they reflect religious teachings on poverty and charity. (Christianity and Islam) 

Write a reflection of your research. Can you find support for these practices in scripture?
